Electric Vehicle Charging Station Locations
Consultation has concluded
Help guide the future of Electric Vehicle charging stations across the district.
Background
In 2023, Council resolved to explore no-cost options for installing Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at strategically located sites across the district.
As part of the project, Council has researched the infrastructure requirements and providers operating in South Australia, as well as the stations installed in the wider region, to understand how EV charging stations can enhance the transport options already available in the district and benefit our community into the future.
At the Ordinary Council Meeting on 15 June 2026, a shortlist of potential locations was presented to Council. Council resolved to undertake community consultation to understand the community’s preferred locations and identify any further sites, and begin a tender process for the installation of EV charging stations.
We Want Feedback On
Identified locations
Council is looking for feedback on six locations that have been identified as meeting the criteria for an appropriate and strategically located EV charging station:
- Port MacDonnell
- Charles Street, adjacent to the water tower
- Skate park carpark
- Sea Parade carpark near the playground and dock
- Mount Gambier and District Saleyards
- Mount Gambier Regional Airport
- Tarpeena Recreation Reserve near the public toilet block
Additional locations
If there is an additional or alternative location that you feel Council should consider, that information will help to ensure that future EV charging infrastructure supports the needs of the community.
An EV charging station should be located close to other amenities that residents and visitors can access while not displacing busy street parking or accessible parking spaces, and not in front of private residences or businesses.
